Know what to expect before you begin.
Answers about online technology, age ranges, practice, scheduling, Guitar Lab, private lessons and your free first meeting with Jacob.

01What is the free Music Discovery Session?+
It is a free 20-minute online meeting with Jacob. You can discuss the student’s goals, confirm the technology setup, ask questions and experience a small piece of his teaching approach before deciding whether to enroll.
02Are online guitar lessons effective for beginners?+
Yes, when lessons are live, the teacher can see and hear the student clearly, and the student follows a focused practice plan. Jacob demonstrates skills, watches the student try them and adjusts the explanation in real time.
03What ages are the lessons designed for?+
Guitar Lab is designed for beginning and developing students ages 10–13. Private lessons can accommodate kids, teens and adults; the discovery session helps confirm the right fit for a younger child.
04Do beginners need prior experience or need to read music?+
No. Absolute beginners are welcome, and students do not need to read standard notation before starting. Jacob introduces the forms of music reading that support each student’s goals.
05What makes this different from an app, YouTube or a marketplace?+
Every live lesson is taught directly by Jacob. The student receives real-time feedback, a structured curriculum, clear practice direction and continuity with the same teacher.
06Is this a good fit for homeschool students?+
Yes. Homeschool families can add a structured live music elective without another commute. Daytime options may be available, subject to time-zone and scheduling compatibility.
07What technology and equipment do we need?+
Students need a playable guitar, a phone, tablet or computer with camera and microphone, reliable internet, headphones if helpful, and a quiet, well-lit space.
08How do live online guitar lessons work?+
The student meets with Jacob by live video from home. Jacob demonstrates, listens, gives immediate feedback and sets clear practice priorities. The exact video platform and setup are confirmed before enrollment.
09Are lessons live or prerecorded?+
Lessons are live. Prerecorded demonstrations or other materials may support practice, but they do not replace the scheduled instruction with Jacob.
10How often should students take lessons?+
The current memberships are built around a consistent weekly lesson. The discovery session is the place to discuss which lesson length and format fit the student.
11Does a parent need to attend a child’s lesson?+
A responsible adult must be available during every online session involving a minor. Direct participation can vary with the student’s age and independence.
12How much should a beginner practice?+
Consistency matters more than marathon sessions. Jacob gives a realistic weekly plan based on the student’s age, schedule and current goals.
13What styles of guitar does Jacob teach?+
Jacob’s current services emphasize beginner guitar, acoustic guitar, campfire songs, worship guitar and practical musicianship. The discovery session helps confirm whether a specific goal is within scope.
14Can students learn worship songs?+
Yes. Jacob offers online worship guitar lessons focused on chords, rhythm, song structure, dynamics and the practical skills involved in supporting worship music.
15What kind of guitar should a beginner buy?+
The right instrument depends on the student’s size, musical interests and budget. Jacob can discuss the choice during the free discovery session rather than recommending one model for everyone.
16How does monthly membership work?+
Guitar Lab is $99 per month. Private weekly lessons are $150, $225 or $300 per month based on length. Membership reserves a recurring weekly time without a long-term contract.
17What happens if a lesson is missed?+
Attendance, cancellation and make-up expectations are reviewed before enrollment so families understand the policy before reserving a recurring time.
18Are lessons available throughout the United States?+
Yes. Students can learn from home throughout the United States when scheduling and time-zone availability align. Jacob teaches from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, near the greater Spokane area.
19How do we get started?+
